Before you all start reading the interview I'd like to take this opportunity to thank him for taking the time out of his busy schedule to talk to me. Derry thanks a bunch for doing the interview your a real cool guy to talk to. * PLEASE NOTE: THE QUESTIONS ASKED IN THE INTERVIEWS ON THIS SITE WERE REQUESTED BY THE FANS. CS : " Now that your a husband and father how do you find the time to write and produce music? DG : " I don't some days its really hard and makes your time difficult . It takea alot more discipline and have to use the time wisely to get the writing done!" CS : " What song from the new album is your favourite and why? DG: " Even now is one them and it 's good as a power balad like what does it take! I don't know if it will come out as a single though! " CS: What is it like living in the US as opposed to Canada?" DG: " I've only been down here for a month and a half , but I've been here before . The Americans are really patriotic with this whole war thing going on . I have been exposed to alot of culturlat differences with the different styles of music!" CS: " When do you feel the record companies input should end? DG: "Well if you have a record company that tells the band how to use their creativity in producing their songwriting that's where it should end! Record companies should help promote the product the artists put out and encourage the bands productivity!" CS: If you had to choose one of your favourite music artists you always dreamed of doing a joint music venture with who would it be and why? DG: " I don't know there are so many songwriters I'd like to work with!I wish I could have been able to work with Stevie Ray Vaughn and another one I'd like to work with is Joe Satriani!" CS:" What advice would you give your kids if they told you they wanted to pursue a career in music? DG: " Tell them to stay and school and get a real job(laughs) No seriously my kids can do whatever they want as long as its something they are happy doing !" CS: " What inspired you to write the song Lemon Tongue?" DG: " Partying and hang overs , All the foggy mornings after a night of drinking! Its a song people can relate to! Its the space in your life when your hung over and you feel like your life is going nowhere!!" CS : " Althought there are new HMS fans , some of the longtime fans in the hmslounge including myself have said Honeymoon Suite is one of the few bands we grew up listening to but is one of the few we still listen to today. What do you think makes your music stand out amongst the rest and how do do you feel hearing about the lasting impression your music has made on your fans over the years? DG:" Its like you said music has a lasting impression on people. They are songs they want to hear over and over again, it transcends the fad like Elvis, the beatles and Sting. Its the quality of music!" CS: " Have you ever come up with an idea for a song and already knew what Johnnie will think of it even before you've asked for his opinion?" DG: " It happens all the time! There are some things I know he'll love and some things I know he'll hate!" CS: " Do you watch reality shows like Popstars , American Idol or Star search? If so what do you think of them and do you feel the judges are justified in their harsh criticsms of the aspiring singers? DG: " No I hate those shows! They are good for unknown people to get exposure , but to me they are staged! I don't waste my time watching stuff like that! I don't really watch too much tv?" CS: " What is the biggest misconception people have about the band?" DG:" That we don't exsist anymore! Some guys say things are they still around?" CS: " Would you ever do a gig for a small charitable event? DG: " We've done charity gigs in the past . If there aree any that I'm interesting in helping the cause then we do a gig for the charity!" CS: " One of the girls for the hmslounge really likes the sone undone and would like to know if you wrote the song in retrospect of your life and your music career?" DG: " Yeah its a little autobiographical! Acutally its one of my favourites! " CS: " How do you decide which songs will be recorded on an album and what becomes of the ones that don't make it on that particular cd?" DG:" We usually write a bunch of songs, then pick about 10- 15 of them and demo them . We narrow them down and get recorded whereas some of them just don't happen!" CS: " Are there any gigs that you've done that you felt that you never wanted to play at that particular venue againand what made you feel that way? DG:" There have been a lot of places that we've played at that I didn't like playing at.I hate playing in small bars, people blow smoke on you and the stages are too small to move around on! I like playing at the bigger club and arema! Places like that!" CS: " Do you think your creativity with yoru songwriting will be affected or influenced by where you live now? DG:" Yeah I'm sure it will be! I never know! I am influenced by life and down here I am exposed to new types of music!" CS: " Do you have a hand in deciding what design you want the cd covers to have? DG" Of course we do! We over see it the whole way through , work with the artist and tell them what we want done for the cd covers?" CS:" Are there any upcoming projects that you are doing that you want the fans to know about? DG: " I would like to work on a solo record eventually | ||||||||||||||||
